Have you seen any of these images pop up on your computer? Hopefully not. If you have, you need help ASAP!!!!!

Just got another customer PC today. They said they started getting all kinds of pop-ups and warnings and install this to remove that. This has been labeled as “Scareware”. I think its a suitable name. Hackers use scare tactics to try to get users to download and install their software to remove viruses and such from their computers. What most people don’t know is that they are the same people that put the viruses or spyware there in the first place.

Please people, If you don’t have software installed to prevent this, then you won’t be getting warning saying that you are infected. And if you do have software installed, then it won’t be asking you to download something to remove those infections.

Did Comcast ditch the idea of throttling bandwidth?

Comcast launched a new online file backup service called Secure Backup & Share for its broadband internet customers. You can backup your computer info online through this service. Three tiers of storage are available: Standard 2GB plan which is free, the Preferred 50GB plan which is $4.99 monthly or $49.99 yearly, and the Premier 200GB plan which is $9.99 monthly or $99.99 yearly. Comcast puts a 250GB cap on users monthly limit. So what happens when you do your first backup of 200GB when you watched several shows online and possibly went through 75GB before you started your backup the first month. After the first backup, the time and size will be much shorter and smaller as only the changes are backed up on the next scheduled backup.

I log into WinXP but then it logs me right back out. What now?

My computer won’t let me log in. Now what?

I got a call from a customer that their desktop computer was starting to run real slow. They said they kept getting a green blank screen. No idea what that was about other than that the resources were deminishing and windows explorer crashed and the background screen color was set to green. But then they said they were getting tons of pop-ups. Bingo. So I had to go on site as this is definitely not something that can be done via phone support. So I tried to log in to start investigating. But as soon as I clicked a username to login, it immediately logged me back out. I tried all the user accounts and the admin and they all did the same.

Solution to come soon.

Or maybe there isn’t a solution to this one other than to recovery the personal data and then reformat and start from scratch. I have searched several forums with no success. I have tried several methods posted in those forums and have hit dead ends.

Maybe someone can help me out???

So the solution was to do a Windows Repair booting with a windows disc. Once that was done, I was able to log in and do some other various chores to complete the repair. Several virus scans with AVG and Norton and several scans for malware with Spybot, Malwarebytes and one other. I also used other various tools to clean the registry and remove temp files and cookies. Another good thing to check and keep an eye on is your start up list. There are many apps out there, some are free, that will scan your system to see what processes and apps are starting when you boot into windows.

After all the complaints about the iPhone not having multitasking, it looks as though Microsoft is going the same route.

How much did it REALLY cost to make your favorite gadget?

The new iPad 32gb version will sell for $729 when it costs only $275 to make.
Google Nexus One retails for $179 and costs $174 to to make. That’s a good deal.
Motorola Droid retails for $199 and costs $185 to build.
The iPhone 3GS retails for $199 and costs $179 to make.

Some companies are willing to take a loss on the sales of their products and rely on the profits they will make on accessories that are made for their devices.

A lot of people think that if their computer won’t boot that their information is gone. This is not always the case. There are ways to recover your personal data. This does not include applications though. Generally this will include your pictures, documents, music, videos and folders.

If this has happened to you, please contact me. There may be a solution to get your info back.

Virus Infection Warning!!!!

The most common problem that people come to me with is that they get a “warning” saying that their computer is infected with viruses and that they will need to purchase their software to remove the viruses. 9 out of 10 times it ends up being Adware or what I call “crapware”. This one is usually an easy fix.
